Department of Sociology

The Department of Sociology at Hazara University Mansehra was established in 2019 and soon earned a prestigious position among the Faculty of Law and Social Science. The Department offers BS in Sociology and M.Phil. in Sociology programs. Currently, a total of 176 students are enrolled our undergraduate and graduate programs. The department consists of highly qualified and well-trained faculty and administrative staff always committed to guide, support, train and facilitate students. The department is operational in a vast building with large classrooms, seminar room, meeting room, offices and beautiful lawns. Our motives are to provide students with an academic platform to equip them with sociological knowledge, critical thinking abilities and develop in them the needed skills to carry out impactful research. Besides, the department provides a comprehensive orientation to the students on fundamental concepts, theories and perspectives and develop in them the right attitude for interdisciplinary academic collaboration to find a well-rounded solution to the complex issues.

The Department of Sociology aimed to advance student's understanding of social and cultural issues at local, national and international level. Our mission is to train and guide students in building new perspectives and developing methodological and analytical tools for exploring and resolving complex social issues to create a real and positive impact.   

The Department of Sociology was established with the prime objective of fulfilling our mission of preparing and producing the graduates capable of performing their role as resposnible, dynamic and productive citizens. Our overarching goal is to prepare our students to grasp the social, cultural and development related issues using sociological imagination, perspectives and theories in the quest to resolve the problems faced by individuals, groups, communities and societies. We train and prepare the students and scholars in key sociological perspectives, theories, concepts including social institutions, social changes and transformation, crime and deviance, gender issues, social inequality and stratification. Our dedicated team at Sociology Department are highly qualified and trained individuals who are actively engaged with students on researching key social issues including family institution in the time of social transitioning, gender role ideologies, indigenous disabilities, human displacement and migration, rural development, sustainable development, disaster management, issues in participatory development, institutional reforms and public policies. We offer a conducive educational atmosphere where students are encouraged to participate, speak and share views and ask critical questions on social issues. Besides, we offer a participatory classroom environment to help the students build perspectives and critical thinking regarding key social issues and cultural realties. Further, we also imbued our students with advanced research methods to conduct quality and impactful social research through rigorous field work and engaging academic practices.
