Dr. Iqbal Alvi (alumnus of the Microbiology Department, Hazara University, Mansehra) has joined the Department of Microbiology, Hazara University, Mansehra in April 2008 and now serving as Assistant Professor . His research focuses on human and animal health with emphasis on bacteriophage therapy against multiple drug resistant bacteria. He has worked on Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), MDR Pseudomonas aeruginosa, antibacterial efficacy of different medicinal plants and Bacteriophage therapy of P. aeruginosa. He has a good command on screening bacteria, Isolation, genetic characterization, protein expression, gene editing using CRISPR and in-Vivo application of bacteriophages as therapeutic. Dr. Alvi is studying the ESKAPE group pathogens and is researching to devise alternative therapeutic approaches to treat MDR ESKAPE pathogens. During the Covid-19 pandemic he has conducted several online awareness sessions for the service of community. Dr. Alvi is a team member of an international consortium working on "Development and Commercialization of Antibiotic Alternatives for Pakistan Poultry Production" (https://ag.purdue.edu/poultryinpakistan/research-team.html). In the post doctoral fellowship, Dr. Alvi has worked on engineered phages, gene deletion using CRISPR-Cas system and learning bioinformatics tools for genome analysis. His area of interest include Bacteriophage Biology, Bacteriophage Therapy, Molecular Bacteriology, Molecular Virology, ESKAPE Pathogens, Poultry Pathogens, Molecular Genetics and Bioinformatics.
