Dr. Zara Rafaque holds a Ph.D. in Microbiology from Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, with a split-site Ph.D. from University of Reading, United Kingdom, funded by Commonwealth Scholarship Commission. Her doctoral research focused on the molecular characterization of uropathogenic Escherichia coli, with particular emphasis on the elucidation of virulence factors and antimicrobial resistance mechanisms. During her Ph.D., Dr. Rafaque published six research articles in internationally recognized, peer-reviewed journals. Her research expertise is aligned with current scientific advancements and includes whole genome sequencing, bacterial mutagenesis, and tissue culture techniques. Her primary research interests include the pathogenesis and antibiotic resistance of clinically significant bacterial pathogens, with a broader aim of identifying novel therapeutic targets for antimicrobial drug development. She is also the recipient of prestigious Commonwealth Professional Fellowship at the University of East London (2025), where she engaged in short-term training and collaborative research activities aimed at strengthening her professional expertise and contributing to capacity building in microbiological research and higher education in Pakistan.
