Master of Philosophy in Communication & Media Studies

Program Objective

Following are the major objectives:

1.      The main objective of MPhil in communication and media studies is to give students an overview of the issues that are significant in the debate occurring primarily within the critical tradition of mass media research.

2.      It also aims to give an insight of creating discourses on emerging trends and issues in the field.

3.      The course also introduces students to liberal pluralist ideas of effects limiting resourcefulness of the audiences’ against critical school’s conceptions of unbridled media power.

4.      And to inculcate the value of the use of language as a tool for creation of social realities and building new knowledge or adding new dimensions to existing knowledge in the domain of communication sciences.

Program Description

Two - Years (4 Semesters) post gradute program designed according to HEC guidelines

M.Phil in Communication & Media Studies is a two-year (4 Semesters: 30 Cr. Hrs.) research track graduate program. In this program, the 1st and 2nd semesters are allocated for the course work of total 24Ccr. Hrs. and the 3rd and 4th semesters are reserved for research work of six Cr. Hrs.

 

The programme is designed according to the national and international standards. This program introduces students to the conceptual, philosophical and logical relations of scientific ethos and philosophical beliefs and orientations in communication sciences. In the light of western philosophical communication theories, non-western and oriental views on various questions in the realm of media and communication sciences tend to be introduced. Therefore, the program offers enough for the scholars to understand the process of production of new knowledge in the field of communication and media studies.

Career Outcomes

Following are the major outcomes:

1.      To enable students  to develop critical thinking about various aspects of Communication

2.      To enable students to find out suitable solutions of the problem faced by the media community.

3.      To enable students to operate in multi-national environment.

4.      To enable students to have a reasonable idea of various theoretical positions within the critical school on the socio-political and cultural role of media and formative influences on mass media institutions in society.
