Program Objective


BS Program’s Objectives

i.        The program enables the students to have a hand on knowledge in the field and get into the market easily.

ii.      The students are enabled to introduce a trend of responsible journalism in Pakistan.

iii.    To contribute to transforming national media become more human serving.

iv.    As writing a research report is mandatory for getting BS degree so it enables the graduates to develop an aptitude for research work.

Program Description

Four-Years (8 Semesters) bachelor level degree programme which is designed according to the national and international standards in light of the HEC guidelines.

BS CMS is a four years bachelor level programme. This program is comprised of eight semesters. The programme is designed according to the national and international standards. This programme produces high quality media graduates who are employed by various leading organizations in the country and outside Pakistan. The BS-CMS programme offers a number of specializations in the area of Print Media- Broadcast Media-Advertising & Public Relations-and Digital Media. The students are required to select one of the specializations of their choice and interests in the 7th and 8th semesters. There is also a compulsory requirement for students in the BS program to undertake eight weeks internship in the area of their specialization in a national or international media organization. The BS program in Communication & Media Studies also makes it mandatory for students to conduct research and submit a thesis immediately after their final examination in the 8th Semester.

 

Scheme of study and the curriculum have been revisited Eight times till January 2025 in light of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) updated curriculum and                               Hazara University guidelines in order to bring the curricula at par with the latest requirements of the discipline. The primary focus of the discipline has been on enhancing critical awareness and role of media in bringing democratic culture and global interaction.

Career Outcomes

This program includes essential subjects relating to broadcast, print and digital media. The students after studying the theoretical foundations and carrying out practical work in print media newsroom, broadcast media newsroom and digital lab would become professionally and ethically sound journalists. The main learning outcomes include:

i.        Ability to develop good communication skills which in turn help students contribute to the main stream national and international media.

ii.      The professional skills they learn by practicing in the department’s print and electronic media laboratories would help them get into the media market easily and contribute to the promotion of standard journalism in Pakistan.

iii.    The potential to learn standardized media ethics and apply the same in due course of their career as media professionals would in turn lead media to have more human serving role.

iv.    As leaders in any organization, the students with understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities can make rational decisions.

v.      The program would help produce quality researchers in the field.
