Program Objective

Objectives of the BS International Relations Program

  1. Develop Foundational Knowledge

    • Provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the core theories, concepts, and approaches in international relations.

  2. Promote Analytical & Critical Thinking

    • Train students to analyze and interpret global political, economic, and security developments with scholarly rigor.

  3. Foster Global Awareness & Responsibility

    • Cultivate an appreciation for peace, diplomacy, human rights, and cooperation in addressing contemporary international challenges.

  4. Strengthen Research & Policy Skills

    • Equip students with research methodologies, policy analysis tools, and diplomatic practices relevant to international and regional affairs.

  5. Enhance Communication & Negotiation Abilities

    • Develop students’ skills in argumentation, debate, and negotiation for effective engagement in academic, diplomatic, and professional settings.

  6. Encourage Interdisciplinary Learning

    • Promote an interdisciplinary approach by connecting IR with political science, economics, law, history, and sociology.

  7. Prepare for Careers & Advanced Studies

    • Enable graduates to pursue careers in diplomacy, foreign service, international organizations, NGOs, media, policy research, or to continue advanced academic studies in international relations and related fields.

Program Description

The BS International Relations (IR) program at Hazara University, Mansehra, equips students with the knowledge and analytical tools needed to understand the complexities of global politics, diplomacy, and international cooperation. The program provides a strong foundation in international relations theory, foreign policy analysis, international law, conflict and peace studies, international political economy, and regional studies.

Students are trained to critically evaluate the dynamics of power, security, globalization, and interdependence among states and non-state actors. Emphasis is placed on research, debate, and policy analysis, enabling graduates to address challenges of peace, development, and international cooperation in an increasingly interconnected world.

Career Outcomes

Graduates of the BS International Relations program will be prepared for careers in diverse fields, such as:

  • Foreign Service & Diplomacy – Roles in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, embassies, and consulates.

  • International & Regional Organizations – Careers in the United Nations, European Union, OIC, SAARC, and other global/regional institutions.

  • Policy Research & Think Tanks – Research positions in institutes focused on foreign policy, defense, and strategic studies.

  • Defense & Security Studies – Opportunities in defense analysis, intelligence, and security policy institutions.

  • NGOs & Development Sector – Work with national and international NGOs focusing on peacebuilding, human rights, humanitarian assistance, and sustainable development.

  • Media & Journalism – Reporting and analysis on foreign policy, global issues, and regional conflicts for media outlets.

  • Academia & Research – Teaching and advanced research in universities and higher education institutions.

  • Civil Services & Public Policy – Success in competitive exams (CSS, PMS) leading to policymaking and administrative careers.
